A man has died in Minneapolis, and the city is trembling – not from the cold, despite temperatures of −30°C, but from anger. Two weeks after the death of Renee Good, 37, who was shot while driving her car by an officer of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Alex Pretti, also 37, met a similar fate on the morning of Saturday, January 24. The nurse was shot 10 times by an officer of the US Border Patrol, another federal immigration agency whose forces have been deployed in the state of Minnesota.
The videos shared by witnesses are difficult to watch. They show a scene that has become all too familiar in recent weeks in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area, known as the “Twin Cities”: an operation carried out by immigration enforcement agents, who are confronted by local residents. Pretti was among them; he lived less than two kilometers away. Wearing a brown coat, he is seen holding his phone in his hand to record the unfolding events. He directs traffic to allow a car to pass.
