As a precaution in response to potential repercussions on French soil from the strikes that have been carried out since Saturday, February 28, by the US and Israel in Iran, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez sent a telegram late that afternoon to prefects as well as the heads of the police, gendarmerie and domestic intelligence ordering domestic security forces to be “placed on alert” to “detect any action likely to disturb public order” in France.
According to information from Agence France-Presse (AFP) that was confirmed by Le Monde, the document highlights several points of concern: strengthened security around diplomatic missions and “certain points of interest of the parties involved,” but also connected to demonstrations organized by the Iranian community in France.
“Although the scale of the turnout remains lower than between mid-January and early February, part of the Iranian community in France continues to support the Iranian people through public actions, and will in the coming days,” Nuñez continued in his telegram. He added that “increased attention to security” should be given to these gatherings, as well as to other demonstrations that could take place in the coming days “in connection to the international situation,” as these could “disturb public order.”
