For over two years, international journalists have not been able to report on-site during the war that devastated the Gaza Strip. Will they now be able to cover the extremely fragile ceasefire, which went into effect on October 10? Three weeks later, the answer is still no. The Israeli authorities, who control all access to the Palestinian enclave, have continued to enforce the ban on international media entering Gaza, which they imposed after the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023. The Israeli Supreme Court, which was due to examine a new request for access to the enclave on October 23, filed a year ago by the Foreign Press Association, has given the government 30 days to review its position in the context of the ceasefire.
Over the past two years, Israeli strikes and military operations in the enclave have only been interrupted twice: A truce, which lasted less than a week, in November 2023, and a second, from January to March 2025, both gave brief respite to Gazans and allowed several dozen Israeli hostages to be freed. In both cases, Israel maintained the media blockade.
